Dyeing operation:
1. For intense dyeing, pour 3-5 litres of boiling water into a large,
rustless enamel jug (bowl or bucket) so that the fabric is able to float. For
medium to light colours (up to a maximum of 300 gms weight fabric), 7 litres of
water must be used. 2. Stir the pack content into the water and dissolve.
3. Add 1 tablespoon of salt per litre of water and dissolve. For silk, 50 ml
of household vinegar must be added. 4. Moisten the textile with lukewarm
water, slightly squeeze out. 5. Lay the textile in the solution; for wax
batik allow to cool to 40-50 °C. 6. Dye for 20 minutes at least, by moving
the material continuously in the solution. 7. Rinse the dyed material after
each dyeing operation in cold water until the water remains clear. Before
rinsing out, allow silk to slowly cool.
The dyeing solution can be stored in a clean, closed container for
several days, it should, however be warmed up to 40 °C at least before dyeing.
The higher the temperature, the more intensive the dyeing result.
